Stadium History:
Today, the Tennessee Titans play in one of the NFL’s best stadiums. However, the team did not always play in the best stadiums prior to moving into The Coliseum. After 30 years of playing in Houston, TX at the Astrodome, the team, then known as the Houston Oilers, began wanting a new football only stadium in the mid 1990’s. After numerous attempts to get a stadium failed, the team decided to move to Nashville, TN. There was one problem though, Nashville did not have a stadium ready for the team by the time they moved in 1996. While a new stadium was being constructed in Nashville, the Titans played at the Liberty Bowl and Vanderbilt Stadium.

On September 12, 1999, the Tennessee Titans moved into their new stadium. The stadium was originally known as Adelphia Coliseum after Adelphia Communications paid $30 million for the naming rights for 15 years. However, prior to the start of the 2002 NFL season, the naming rights were dropped and the stadium is now known as The Coliseum. The stadium consists of three levels of 67,000 blue and red seats. The lower grandstand circles the entire gridiron. Two other decks of seating are located on both sides of the field. Two scoreboard/video-boards are located behind the seating area past the endzones. The Coliseum contains 144 luxury suites, and 9,600 club seats (which make up the second tier of the grandstand). The Coliseum is also the home of the Tennessee State Tigers and hosts the Music City Bowl. Fans attending games at The Coliseum receive excellent views of the nearby Nashville skyline and the Cumberland River.
